Vinyl Collective Label Announces First Release - The Falcon

Falcon_3 The Vinyl Collective cooperative label has officially announced their first release for the label, the vinyl version of The Falcon's God Don't Make No Trash.

Here is the official announcement from the label, along with pre-order and pressing information:

"Vinyl Collective's Vinyl Cooperative is excited to announce its first release, the Falcon's "God Don't Make No Trash" on 10″ gatefold, colored vinyl. The EP which was originally released on CD by Red Scare Records has been licensed by the cooperative for release on vinyl. A pre-order for the vinyl will be posted on Wednesday, October 8th, 2008.

The Vinyl Collective Cooperative began as a thought that most die-hard music fans out there would love to run their own label but are just not in a position to do so. I kind of liken it to fantasy football, just not as lame. I thought that all the collectors out there would have opinions about records that have yet to be released on vinyl and in most cases these collectors would make better A&R reps than actual label folks. I think that most labels only think about the bottom line, but with this project the hope is that the best records rise to the top and see the light of day.

We announced a buy in of 200 Units of involvement on April 11th, 2008 and we sold out in 8 minutes. The 200 unit holders are from all over the world and posses diverse musical tastes. Combined with the 10 board members, we have an interesting group of people. Since that initial buy in, we have nominated and voted on releases that we would love to see licensed for vinyl and have been taking the past few months to obtain licenses. The coop has taken a lot of time to get off the ground, but it is now in full swing.

The Falcon's "God Don't Make No Trash" will be pressed on 2 colors (333 on transparent red vinyl, 667 on royal blue. The record will be housed in a Gatefold jacket. Since the 210 unit holders and 10 board members will all receive copies of the most limited color in addition to band and label copies, only 40 will be available for sale in our pre-order. There will be 500 copies of the royal blue vinyl available but there is a very high likelihood that these will sell out before entering the retail marketplace. The Falcon is Brendan Kelly and Neil Hennessy from the Lawrence Arms joined by fellow Chicago natives Dan Andriano of the Alkaline Trio and Todd Mohney, formerly of Rise Against.

The Pre-order will take place at 2pm Mountain Standard on 10/8/08. Good luck and thanks to everyone in the Cooperative for making this happen."

*Note: I guess the pre-order already happened yesterday. I didn't see this until now. My bad. Still, a cool announcement  nonetheless.  Congrats VC co-op on your first release as a label!

Slingshot Dakota cancels fall tour

SsdSlingshot Dakota have announced that sadly, they have canceled all the dates for their current fall tour due to drummer Tom Paterson's back problems. The band posted a Myspace blog explaining and says that despite this, they will still be playing The Fest 7  in Gainesville next month.

Here's today's update.

picture

The later weekdays (Thursday and Friday) aren't really conducive to updating due to the hectic nature of my job on those days. I apologize, even though today seems to be a non-news day anyway.

But tonight's a big night--I'm actually going to a show! It may not seem like a big deal to any of you, but not many shows come to my podunk little section of Florida, and my extreme destitution doesn't allow me to commute to nearly as many shows as I would like. If you're a local-to-me reader (Brevard/Indian River/Osceola counties) over 21, come to Vero Beach tonight and check out The Tim Version, Ninja Gun, and Watson at Filthy McNasty's. It's a free show, and how many things are free nowadays?

And if you recognize me there, buy me a fucking drink because I'm poor.

This weekend, we'll have a recap of this show (with perhaps some visual aids), at least one review if not more, and any other news fit to post. Have a good weekend and go crazy because America is headed straight to Hell.

They And The Children calls it a day

picture

They And The Children have broken up. The announcement straight from the band:

"Hello everyone

After 5 years, 3 7"s, an EP and a full length record, They And The Children has decided to call it a day. I would like to note first and foremost that this ending is not due to any interpersonal squabbling or developed rift between anyone. Simply put, we felt that we done about as much as we could with this project and decided to allow everyone involved to move onward to other things.

As of this point, we aren't planning a final show. That doesn't mean, however, that one won't happen. If no other show were to occur, that would mean our last performance was on Sunday, August 3rd, the BBQ at Lori's/the People's Center, which was an incredible time and we are collectively glad so many of our friends were able to attend.

While there are alot of people that I personally will thank for their collective help at another time, we do want to thank Kill Normal, Tor Johnson, Shock Value, and Spicy Soup for helping us (or wanting to help us) continually release our material. Obviously there are also tons of bands, promoters, and people who have just generally been kind to us that also deserve tons of thanks. It's rather difficult to encapsulate that sort of gratitude in a concise message like this, but I think those individuals/groups know who they are.

As of right now we still have a sufficient amount of merchandise left over, so if you are interested in picking something up, please contact me directly and we can work something out. Of course, the Kill Normal, Tor Johnson, and Shock Value sites still have most of our catalog available.

There will be new projects on the horizon. Ryan and I have something in the works and I'll post a bulletin through this page if there's anything to update you on any member of the band.

So thanks for reading this and for your support over the years. It has been sincerely appreciated.

Best,

Brian/TATC"

Hellmouth signs to Ferret

picture

Our buddies in Hellmouth have inked a deal with Ferret, and the label will release the band's debut full-length later this year (wow, really?).

We reviewed Hellmouth's demo a while back, and also gave away copies of it in our first-ever contest. Those demos are now completely sold out, so consider yourself fortunate if you got one.

Matt and Kim - "Good Ol Fashion Nightmare"

picture

Matt and Kim have posted a track from their new record GRAND for free download. Matt wrote a blurb about the recording process:

"DAMN, it's been almost two years since Kim and I have released a single thing! In those two years our bodies have traveled... I guess... hundreds of thousands of miles?! Crazy when I think about it. Maybe that's why our friend Jay said, "I found this footage of you playing Fuck Yeah Fest 2006, and you looked so young." That was only two freakin years ago! So yes we put miles and years on these bodies, but with all the driving around in a 98' green Astro van I called President VANburen, there was little room for makin NEW music. By the way writing songs is one of my favorite things to do in the world.

For the past months, every spare minute we weren't touring we were working on a new album. We knew we needed to record somewhere we could feel creative, and for us, that wasn't a recording studio. We did the initial tracking in the bedroom I grew up in Vermont. It still has skateboarding posters all over the ceiling, silkscreen ink from making patches on the floor, and the memories of all the punks songs I wrote and recorded there since I was 14 years old, tucked away in boxes of 4-track tapes under my bed.

All in all, I feel the songs we recorded are the best music I've ever worked on in that room, or anywhere else for that matter. This song is the first anyone is hearing from our upcoming album GRAND. We chose GOOD OL FASHION NIGHTMARE to kick it off, in hopes that it'll serve you well for these last summer weeks.
