Eternal Hope Records signs Gaining Ground

GgWashington, DC-based indie label Eternal Hope Records has announced the signing of Albany, NY straight edge hardcore band Gaining Ground.

The band currently has a five song demo out and a four song 7" record entitled Still Trying released earlier this year on Seasick Records.

Fresh off their Canadian tour with Recon, Fat As Blood, and The Miles Between Us, Gaining Ground will be heading into the studio in October to record a new full length CD due out this fall on Eternal Hope with a 12" vinyl version being released via Seasick Records.

Jerry Finn (1970 - 2008)

On August 12th (better late than never, right?), 38 year old producer Jerry Finn was taken off life support; a result from a preceding brain hemorrhage earlier in July. Finn was a legend to punk recording utilizing a more upscale, dare I say "polished" sound, to a genre known for its grittiness.

Condolences to his friends and family, without him I would have never gotten into the music I devote my whole life too.

Essential Jerry Finn:

  • Green Day - Dookie (1994)
  • Rancid - ...And Out Come the Wolves (1995)
  • Jawbreaker - Dear You (1995)
  • The Smoking Popes - Destination Failure (1997)
  • Blink 182 - Enema of the State (1999)
  • Alkaline Trio - From Here to Infirmary  (2001)
  • Bad Religion - The Process of Belief (2002)
  • A.F.I. - Sing the Sorrow (2003)
  • Morrissey - You Are the Quarry (2004)

Note: I'd like to introduce myself, I'm Mike and I'm a sexy young dude with lots of free time. I'm going to be writing for What We Hate... be afraid.

A set from Hot Cross, live in Germany

Don't let the fact that I stumbled across this Hot Cross video two and a half years after the fact deter you from watching it. This is an extended cut from 2006 wherein the band rocks the fuck out to a small room full of stoked people.

Hot Cross went on an 'indefinite hiatus' last year after releasing their oft-delayed, re-recorded debut for Equal Vision, Risk Revival. Of course, this video predates that album so there's nothing played from it, but for fans of the band's older stuff this video should be a treat. The setlist and video can be found below.

1. Putting The Past Right
2. A Weekend Spent Askance
3. The Eye Is A Tricky Machine
4. Between Minutes And Miles
5. Patience And Prudence // Finger Redux
6. In Memory Of Morvern
